The AAU has worked with many partners over the year to secure scholarship funding to support anesthesia providers in Uganda. This has included scholarships for Mmed and BSc training as well as post-Mmed ‘Scholars’ positions to support recent graduates and public health professionals who seek support for their research and education projects or their clinical career development. In 2017, AAU created the AAU Fellows Program to begin formalizing these pathways and opportunities for Ugandan anaesthesia providers. The overall aim of this program is to accelerate local anaesthesia and critical care workforce expansion in Uganda by investing in future leaders.
